We had a fantastic five nights in a massive city apartment in Lisbon, enjoying the company of Sarah, Lucy and Cai. We made the most of the space by cooking a lot in the evenings, drinking a lot of amazing port and playing yahztee together. The city itself was clean, beautiful and very, very hot.
Walking tour – on our first day we orientated ourselves with a free walking tour. It took us up past the castle and through the Alfama district were we found a lovely local open air restaurant for dinner.
Belem – this is the home of the Pastéis de Belém, the original Portuguese Tart. Apparently they make 14,000 per day and they WERE AMAZING! We also visited the Belem Tower, the Discovery Monument and the Jerónimos Monastery.
Sintra – we took a day trip out to this amazingly lush UNESCO world heritage town where we enjoyed wandering the streets, eating more Portuguese tarts and exploring the beautifully weird Pena Palace.
National Sanctuary of Christ the King – we visited this huge catholic monument (which is a copy of the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro) and got some amazing views looking back at the city.
Sister time – i felt very blessed to be able to spend so much quality time making memories with both Lucy and Sarah in such a beautiful part of the world
